DesignMatters: Coastal Crisis

Last Spring, I took a class under the Art Center DesignMatters program called "Coastal Crisis". Funded by the Aquarium of the Pacific, the class objective was to help raise awareness about Sea Level Rise (SLR) and how to slow it down.

My group, named "Carbon Detox", made two main projects. Our whole campaign in these projects was to encourage and educate people about lowering Sea Level Rise by lowering their carbon footprint.

Our first project was a life-size accordion pop-up exhibit that featured infographics on both sides. One side explained ways of being environmentally friendly as a way to lower Sea Level Rise and the other side depicted images of the coastal areas that are in most danger of SLR.

Our second project was an interactive table designed with the Aquarium of the Pacific cafe in mind. The concept behind this table was to educate visitors while they relaxed and ate their meals.

Besides pitching in for brainstorm, my other job was a to create take-away napkins that complimented the cafe table. The idea behind that was to have visitors take information home with them after they finish interacting with the table.

Here are some images of the napkins:

Lazy Bee

A bee that throws away his sense of purpose and settles for a beautiful life of fast food, gaming, and mediocrity.
